COVID-19 Update

24-March-2020

Having completed 1 week of the online classes, glad to report that we have got 92% of our students on the URSDL (UCMAS Richmond Social Distance Learning) online platform. Thank you to all the parents for being supportive & appreciative of the efforts.

Would like to share some thoughts :

- We decided to go online before the school district announced  their plans to close down indefinitely
- We used  a focus  group of 10 Grad students to do the trial runs so that we could tweak things
- We offered the option to come to the centre as well as do the session online during the first week
-  We addressed the parents as a group after each session to get their feedback
- Started online sessions during the off-peak days, allowing time for the instructors to get used to the medium

Complying with national measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, UCMAS Richmond has decided not to operate its classes in the center.

In order to have the learning activities continued and engage our students effectively, we are putting in place, an online learning system, details of which has been communicated to you via email.

We would also like to inform that UCMAS competition 2020 which was to be held in May this year has been indefinitely postponed.

Meanwhile, stay safe and look after your near and dear ones.

Thank you all for your support and understanding.

With the COVID-19 situation continuing to evolve very quickly, we wanted to provide you with an update on UCMAS's efforts to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students and other members of the community. We understand that there is an increasing level of concern within the community. Some of you have been reaching out to inquire as to our plans.

During the past few weeks, UCMAS management has continued to monitor the changing health environment and consult regularly with our colleagues in UCMAS centres across Canada and in the US. This has included developing and assessing a number of different scenarios in preparation for the continuation of UCMAS classes.

We are following the guidelines as per Vancouver Coastal Health  & School district, and the current notification is:

"there has been no identified spread of the COVID-19 virus in the community and the risk to Canadians remains low."

Also, the school district advise is "that closing schools  is not appropriate or advised at this time".

We have implemented additional measures to ensure your safety as well as the safety of our team, including:

  • Introducing enhanced cleaning protocols

  • Making sure our staff is washing hands thoroughly and more frequently

  • Asking any staff members who have travelled to self isolate for 14 days before resuming work.

We would also request all parents to keep in  mind and self-isolate for 14 days  after you return, if you travel outside Canada.

If your child is feeling mildly sick, then kindly refrain from sending him/her to class.

Thank you for your continued support, patience and understanding. If there is anything of urgent concern to you, please reach out to us.
